Hello everyone, Welcome to the course! Welcome to BTM 200: Leisure and Recreation in Hospitality and Tourism. This course introduces you to the important role that leisure and recreation play in the hospitality and tourism industry and in improving people's quality of life. Throughout the course, you will explore the concepts and theories of leisure and recreation, health and social benefits, motivation and participation, demand and supply, environmental impacts, recreation and tourism planning, community participation, facilities and risk management, recreation programme design, and entrepreneurship. You will also examine current trends and emerging issues in leisure, recreation and tourism, with practical examples from Kenya and the wider hospitality and tourism industry. As you progress through the course, you will be encouraged to connect what you learn in class with real-life leisure, recreation and tourism experiences. Through readings, discussions, case studies and practical activities, you will develop the ability to plan, manage and evaluate leisure and recreation activities and services while considering customer needs, safety, sustainability and community involvement. By the end of the course, you should have a good understanding of how leisure and recreation contribute to successful hospitality and tourism operations and be able to apply this knowledge in professional practice.
