Sustainable tourism is an approach to tourism development and management that considers the current and future economic, social, cultural, and environmental impacts of tourism, while balancing the needs of visitors, tourism businesses, host communities, and the environment. It seeks to ensure the long-term viability of destinations by conserving natural resources and biodiversity, reducing pollution and resource consumption, protecting cultural heritage and local identities, and ensuring that tourism generates fairly distributed economic and social benefits, including employment and opportunities for local communities. Effective sustainable tourism also requires responsible destination management, stakeholder participation, monitoring of tourism impacts, and appropriate management of visitor numbers and development.
